We have answers!
Our saunas are designed to withstand the toughest conditions and feature some of the fastest heat-up times on the market.
Our saunas are handcrafted in Spruce Grove, Alberta, just outside Edmonton.
You can pick up your sauna kit or fully assembled unit for free at our warehouse in Spruce Grove. Please bring a trailer large enough for a forklift to load and tie-downs to secure the sauna. For Edmonton and surrounding areas, we offer delivery for sauna kits or fully assembled saunas for $250 and option for us to assemble on-site for $500. We also offer to pre-seal the exterior of the sauna, cost $260 labor + cost of sealer. For locations further in Alberta, email us for a quote. For North American shipments, we use third-party carriers to deliver the sauna crates via tailgate lift trucks to your driveway. Please email us to verify delivery availability.
Our heaters come with a one-year manufacturer warranty. We do not accept returns on used barrels but are happy to troubleshoot any issues. Since our saunas are made from natural wood, occasional cracking or breakages can occur, and we’ll provide replacement pieces if needed.
It takes about 2–3 hours to assemble the barrel and 1–2 hours to install a wood-fired heater. For electric heaters, a certified electrician must complete the heater installation.
Orders are typically ready for pick-up or shipping after 2–4 weeks.
We accept Credit cards, E-transfers, Cash and Certified Cheques. For E-transfers, please send your payment to hello@copperwoodsauna.ca.
Regular sauna use (3–7 times per week) has been shown to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, and circulatory health. Saunas also help relax muscles, relieve stress, and support the immune system.
According to CSA standards, the maximum temperature for a sauna is 90°C (194°F). Wood-fired saunas can get slightly hotter than electric ones and are not thermometer-regulated, so take precautions to avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat. Most studies recommend using a sauna 3–4 times a week for 20-minute sessions at 71-88°C (160-190°F) for the best results. Always consult a physician before use.
Yes, both our wood-fired and electric stoves are designed to handle water for steam.
Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol, caffeine, or drugs before using a sauna. Consult a doctor if you have medical conditions (e.g., heart issues, high blood pressure) or are pregnant. Start with shorter sessions (10–15 minutes) at lower temperatures 65-80°C (150–175°F) and gradually increase as you get used to it. Avoid heavy meals or fasting beforehand, and exit the sauna immediately if you feel unwell. Dress lightly, avoid wearing jewelry, and supervise children closely.
Our saunas are made from kiln-dried, tight-knot Western Red Cedar with a moisture content of 12–15%.
Barrel saunas work well in cold climates. Their circular shape ensures even air circulation without sharp corners, making them efficient.
No additional insulation is needed. The 1.5-inch-thick cedar boards provide natural insulation with an R3 value, ensuring durability and low maintenance.

Choose an electric heater with Wi-Fi controls for convenience, especially if you want to preheat your sauna before arriving home. A wood-fired heater is ideal for a traditional experience, especially at a cottage or lake, with the ambiance of crackling wood and glowing embers.

Place your sauna on a sturdy surface such as a deck, a concrete pad, concrete blocks, or screw piles. Avoid direct contact with the ground to extend the lifespan of your cedar sauna.
Your heater size (4.5kW, 6kW, or 8kW) depends on your sauna size. Electric heaters require 240V and must be hardwired to your electrical panel, similar to a hot tub. We recommend that you have an electrician inspect your panel before you order your heater, to confirm capacity.
In winter, electric heaters take 20–35 minutes to heat up, while wood-fired heaters are slightly faster. Heating times depend on the outside temperature.

To maintain your sauna, wipe down the interior regularly with a damp cloth and a mild, natural cleaner to prevent the buildup of bacteria or mildew. After each session, ensure the sauna has time to air dry. For the exterior, use a soft towel with water and a gentle cleaner, like dish soap, to clean any dirt or stains. Rinse thoroughly to protect the wood and keep it looking its best.
Sealing your sauna is optional, depending on the look and maintenance level you prefer. For the exterior, you can enhance the cedar’s natural beauty with a clear sealer, such as Osmo Clear Sealer 410, which requires reapplication every 2–4 years. Alternatively, you can leave the cedar untreated, allowing it to age naturally into a silver-gray patina, with its rich colour reappearing when wet. For the interior, we recommend protecting bench tops by using a towel during use, applying a natural wax, or using a water-based sauna sealer like those from Northern Lights Cedar Products.
